Masala India

It was a very nice, refreshing experience to have the company of our parents and Frans and Annemie to exlpore these higlights of India.

Delhi
Fine old Islamic archetecture, Modern buildings, Gate of India, wild ride with riksjas through de winding streets and finaly the lively, choquing, hallucinating, yet highly entertaining main bazaar (Paharganj), India at its best. A mix of odours, movement, lights, sounds, vibrations. A very special and sometimes too intense attack on your senses. This is masala India.

Mandawa
Antique Haveli´s, houses and palaces from 1001 nights, painted and decorated as  fairy tales. We celebrated christmas here outside in the dessert, with champain, wine, bonfires, musique, dances and a big buffet.

Jaipur
Palaces, forts, Moghul heavens for the Maharaja and his 12 wives. The old city, a place with big contrasts: beautifull architecture but completely in decay. We lost our way in the colourfull, narrow streets where beggars and shops alternatively took our attention.

Agra
The Tai Mahal, words cannot describe this wonder of the world. We celebrated New Years Eve in great Bollywood style with singing Bollywoodstars and wild dances... and ofcourse an endless buffet.

Delhi
On the way back to Delhi we visit ´small Varanasi´: Mathura. This is the place where Krishna was born. Is a busy place for offering, bathing, cremating. Again the real India: busy small streets, temples, cows.
Delhi feels like spring this time of the year. It´s a good feeling to be back here after all our impressions on the road. India gave us a feeling of deep humanity, harmony, inner beauty, disciplinned chaos, openness.
